Child & Teenager Psychotherapy

About me...

Gkimousi Flora
Psychologist

I am a Psychologist, with a primary professional and academic focus on the mental health and emotional development of children and adolescents, as well as on supporting families and the wider environments in which children grow and develop.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Panteion University in Athens and continued my studies in Spain at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where I completed postgraduate specialization in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, as well as postgraduate studies in Educational Psychology.

My training in Madrid gave me the opportunity to gain experience in both clinical and educational settings. At Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús, I participated in outpatient diagnostic procedures, psychoeducational programmes within the inpatient unit, multidisciplinary team meetings, and group sessions with adolescents with eating disorders. As part of my training in Educational Psychology, I also completed an internship at FUHEM schools in Madrid, participating in the work of the school psychology department and in educational programmes for parents.

During my time in Spain, I also worked with Asociación Alanda, an organisation supporting children and young people with developmental disorders within their natural environments, including home and school. As part of this work, I provided individualized support to a young adult with autism while attending a vocational training programme.

My involvement in the clinical field had already begun during my undergraduate studies through my placement at the Child Psychiatry Department of Tzaneio Hospital in Athens and, later, through my experience at the Child and Adolescent Clinic of the Mental Health Centre of Chania. These settings allowed me to become familiar with diagnostic procedures, multidisciplinary teamwork, and the administration of psychometric and clinical assessment tools.

An important part of my professional identity is my training in Systemic Psychotherapy, through a four-year programme. The systemic perspective lies at the heart of the way I approach therapeutic work: rather than viewing a child or adolescent in isolation, I seek to understand them within the network of meaningful relationships, family, school environment and experiences that shape their world.

Over the past years, I have been working as a Psychologist and Psychotherapist with children, adolescents and families. My professional experience includes individual sessions, parent counselling, family support, psychometric assessment, support with anxiety and emotional difficulties, social skills development, psychoeducation around ADHD, as well as strategies for attention and learning.

School Psychology is another significant part of my professional practice. I work as a School Psychologist at Mavromataki – MITERA School, supporting children across both Kindergarten and Primary School. My role includes ongoing observation and psychological support within the school environment, individual and group work with children, parent consultation, and close collaboration with teachers to understand and respond to students’ emotional, social and developmental needs. My everyday presence within the school setting allows me to understand children not only through individual sessions, but also through the relationships, interactions and real-life contexts that shape their daily experience.

To ensure the quality and ethical standards of my therapeutic practice, I receive regular professional supervision of my clinical and therapeutic work. I am equally committed to continuous scientific and professional development through regular participation in conferences, seminars and continuing education programmes related to my scientific and clinical interests.
